The style is contemporary, the elevation simple. The 1,100 sq ft house on five cents of land in Kozhikode stands out.
The owner, Raveendran, wanted a simple two-storied structure. It had to be cost-effective, yet comfortable to live in. Designer Sajeendran Kommeri was apprised of the plan as his expertise lay in building budget homes. Within eight months, Raveendran’s house was ready.
A sit-out, living-dining space, three bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and work area complete the structure. Thanks to the meticulous planning, the complete structure was ready in three months and the furnishing in five. The total cost, a cool Rs 22 lakhs.
The elevation is in white. Laterite stone claddings over the exterior walls heighten the effect of the house. They are a fine contrast to its complete white. Corner windows are added attractions. There are plant boxes around the sit-out.
The interiors paint a picture of style and one is left to wonder whether this really is a budget house. Paneling in plywood-veneer wood finish embellishes several parts of the interior. The niches with lights inside are an attractive style element. The sofas in leather fabric complement the color and design of the living space.
Though the structure has only a floor area of about 1,100 sq ft, the floor management gives out an effect of 1,500 sq ft. The open style with very few walls inside gives an effect of roominess. At the same time, the living and dining sections have their privacy.
The six-seating dining table is simple and elegant. The dining space gets its highlight from an elongated paneling in plywood and veneer boards on one of its walls. The TV unit rests here. What brought down the cost was the maximum-utility feature of the interiors. The space beneath the stairway has been split in two, with one going in as the storeroom and the other, a bedroom.
Skylights in pergola glass atop the staircase landing heighten the effect of brightness and are other style elements. The wall closeby looks attractive in wallpaper and the photo frames brighten up the place. The stairway handrails are of stainless steel. Vitrified tiles have been laid on the floor. Tiles in wood finish cover the kitchen floor. Another attractive feature is a glass door leading to the kitchen. The countertop in white granite perks up the place.
There are three bedrooms with attached bathrooms. The fiber curtains and blinds complement the color theme of the house.
