When Baiju Prasad and his wife, Asha, both engineers who are settled in Dubai, thought about building a house in Kerala, all they wanted was a chic-looking, ranch-style home. Designer Lal Madathinkal had this in mind when the plan was drawn. Here’s a peek into the 4,300 sq ft magnificent structure Devadheyam in Pettah, near Thrippunithura.
The elevation is totally in the Victorian style. This was what the owners wanted. The ivory colored walls make the structure all the more Victorian. Even the windows made of teak have been painted to give the style more credibility. The interiors, however, are in the modern-contemporary style.
The dining room comes from abroad. The beams on the ceiling have been given a teakwood texture and they give the room its look of sophistication. LED strips and two antique chandeliers brighten up the dining section. The 'lakha' red border on Italian floor marble is another stylish feature. The terracotta artwork on one of the dining room walls is quite a quaint room décor.
Here too, the Italian marble floors are stylish, to say the least. The sofa sets are foreign elements. The TV unit sits on a wall embellished with stone cladding. Here too, LED lights brighten up the place. The antique chandeliers gel with the theme of the house. The pattern work in teakwood on the false ceiling in gypsum is another feature of the interior décor.
The highlight of the house is its spiral staircase – a combination of teak wood and metal. Wallpapers used lavishly perk up the beauty of the rooms. The winding staircase goes right up to the stair room and it’s a majestic sight. The windows on the side walls of the stairway bring in the glorious sunshine.
There are four bedrooms. The different colored texture paint on various sides of the bedroom walls is what dresses up the place. Vitrified floor tiles, which look like marble, have been laid on bedroom floors.
The bathroom is exquisitely designed. A bath tub and a dry area are its special features. But it’s the wall tiles that give the place its stunning look.
