Kochi: The second edition of the India Fashion Summit (IFS), a conference on the Indian fashion industry, will be held on March 3 at Marriott Hotel, Kochi. The event is being organized by the India Fashion Incubator in association with Kerala State Institute of Design and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence, Government of Kerala.
Envisaged by eminent fashion journalist Vinod Nair and management expert Arun Balachandran, India Fashion Summit 2018 will provide an ecosystem for sustainable development of fashion with prime focus on promoting hand-woven textiles in designer fashion and nurturing exceptional young talents in the field of fashion. IFS intends to bring together various fashion stakeholders and eventually act as an ecosystem for the effective policy making and sustainable development.
This year's main speakers include pioneers of the industry such as leading fashion designers Manish Malhotra, Peter D'Ascoli, Wendell Rodricks, Arjun Khanna, Suket Dhir, Alan Alexander Kaleekal, Jebin Johny and Hari Anand; fashion journalists Anil Chopra (former CEO, Lakme Lever Ltd); Vinod Nair (president, India Fashion Summit) and Neena Haridas (editorial director, L’Officiel India) and Online Fashion Retail Heads including Narendra Kumar (creative head, Amazon Fashion) and Nihal Rajan, vice president & head of design-MFB at Myntra Designs.
“In the past 25 years the Indian fashion industry has seen tremendous growth in terms of talents, structured ways of doing business through fashion events. However, we never had a platform to discuss and deliberate various aspects relating to the fashion industry in India and India Fashion Summit was created to fill that void. Each year we invite the leaders as well as youngsters to the summit and present before them different topics to discuss and give their points of views.
Last time the theme was ‘Indian Fashion — The Way Forward’ and this year’s theme is ‘Sustainable Fashion: Hand woven Magic’’, said Vinod Nair.
“I am extremely happy to be associating with the India Fashion Summit 2018. This will be an opportunity for Kerala State Institute of Design and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence to project their presence to an international audience. KASE being the Skill Development Mission of Kerala, this association is also a reflection of the potential for skilling in the arena of fashion design. I look forward to a long and meaningful relation with IFS, one that will be mutually beneficial and contribute to development of the fashion design industry in the state” said Sriram Venkitaraman, IAS, managing director, Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence.
IFS is expected to provide a plugged-in and well-rounded view of the issues that impact the fashion industry. The key objectives of the summit will be to launch and develop new initiatives in the business of fashion, to build a well-connected, collaborative fashion network for tomorrow, and to find, develop and promote budding talents in the field of fashion.
