It's been four months since Indian Navy Commander Abhilash Tomy was rescued from mid sea while participating in the round-the-world Golden Globe race.
The 39-year-old's rescue was a dramatic one as he drifted around in the sea for three days lying immobile on his injured back inside a dismasted 'Thuriya'.
In a recent interview, Commander Tomy revealed how a Malayalam movie song kept him going during his troubled time.
Crediting his wife Urmimala for sending him the song, he said, “I had a satellite phone and I was sharing messages with my wife through a satellite radio operator stationed in South Africa. One day he contacted me and told there was a message for me.”
He then added, “I feared something bad has happened. But when he opened the message a song started to play - the ‘Thaniye Mizhikal Thurannuvo...’
The soothing and soulful number from the movie 'Guppy' starring Tovino Thomas is composed by Vishnu Vijay and sung by Sooraj Santhosh. The song won Sooraj the state award for best singer in 2017.
The song which begins as a devotional track later takes up the high notes and takes one to an altogether different mood. The song which gelled well with the film's narrative saw how the characters of Tovino, Chetan and Sreenivasan leads on with their lives ahead.
Sooraj once said in an interview that the song has the power to lift one's spirits, and it did for Abhilash Tomy!
