Fabia V Mathew was just a happy and chirpy college-going girl in Delhi, until she reached her home state Kerala to attend a wedding. She is now the female lead of an upcoming Malayalam movie, and when she returns to Delhi this time, Fabia would have some ‘filmy’ stories to share with her friends. A thrilled and excited Fabia still can’t believe she had actually landed the role in the movie 'Nonsense', which will hit the theatres soon. She talks about her unexpected journey to the silver screen.

Unexpected offer

It was in August last year that Fabia reached Kerala to attend a family wedding. She had earlier sent her pictures to director Jithin, who is a friend of her father’s brother Vimal. “I met the director when I came to down to Kerala. At our first meeting itself I was offered the role. I said ‘yes’ when my family gave me the go-ahead. The shooting began the week after that,” says Fabia with a hint of disbelief in her eyes.

Movie with newcomers

‘Nonsense’ directed by MC Jithin is in fact a celebration of the youth and most of the actors who essayed the main roles in it are fresh faces. The movie bankrolled by Johny Sagarika is penned jointly by Jithin, Muhammed Shafeeq and TB Libin. Rinosh George, musician and singer, who became an internet sensation with his quirky albums like ‘I am a Mallu’ and ‘This is Bangaluru’ makes his silver screen debut through this film.

Fabia says that she was not at all anxious as most of the artists and technicians in the movie were youngsters, who were also newcomers. “Everyone was very supportive. Though I was a little scared to face the camera for the first time, I was able to overcome it on the first day of filming itself. The director who communicates with clarity made my job even easier,” Fabia shares her acting experiences.

Unique theme

The theme of ‘Nonsense’ is quite new and unique to the Malayalam cinema. BMX or bicycle motocross is a popular sports activity in many countries. In India too, it is slowly gaining popularity. The movie has many thrilling stunt scenes which involve a BMX bike, which in fact has a major role in this film. The makers say that the movie, a sports thriller, also has elements of friendship, romance and quest to fulfill one’s dreams. The movie was mostly shot at Iritty in Kannur district.

Surprised friends

Fabia acted in the movie when she was a third-year BCom student at the Jesus and Mary College in Delhi. Though she was supposed to stay in Kerala only for a few days, Fabia returned only after wrapping up the filming’. Her friends back in Delhi came to know about the real reason behind her long ‘leave’, only when she returned. Fabia says, “Everyone was so happy. My friends in Delhi and in Kerala knew about it only a little late. They have been asking about the release date ever since the trailer and the poster of the movie have been out.”

After completing her B Com degree from Delhi, Fabia has enrolled for MBA at the Christ College in Bangalore. Though she is already receiving new offers, she hasn’t signed anything yet. Fabia says that she would think about the next project only after the release of her debut movie, and that she wishes to complete her education simultaneously.

Fabia is the daughter of Vaikom native Vinod M Philip and Emily V Mathew who stay at Lajpat Nagar in Delhi. Fabia’s parents and her siblings, who are students, are eagerly waiting for the release of the movie ‘Nonsense’.
