State award winning actor Vinayakan, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie 'Thottapan', is now facing the ire of internet bullies.

In an interview to a Malayalam channel as part of the promotion of the movie, Vinayakan was asked about his take on the Lok Sabha elections.

Without any hesitation, the actor opened up saying he was a self-professed left sympathiser and that he was shocked by the defeat of the left in the state.

“People should think what really happened in the elections,” he said.

He also made a statement about the BJP's performance in the state. “Keralites are smart enough. The results proved that the BJP won't be able to gain foothold in Kerala,” he said.

He made clear that though he has strong political views, he had no intention to join politics and would rather remain an actor.

These comments didn't go well with many.

While some threatened that they will boycott his films, some despised him by calling him 'a commie'. He was also heaped with comments slamming the colour of his skin.

As comments started pouring out, Vinayakan took to Facebook and apologized. He said he meant people's representatives should reflect about the results not the people'. Later, he also changed his display picture with an image of Lord Ayyappa.

This is not the first time that an actor has been abused for voicing out his political stand. Earlier, Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi applauded the decision of Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the Sabarimala issue and in turn was brutally trolled.
