The first-look poster of the upcoming biopic on former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa was revealed on Wednesday on the occasion of her second death anniversary. The image of actress Nithya Menen as the late leader has evoked both praise and criticism with some calling it 'worst photoshop for an immersive biopic'. In the picture, shared by the makers, Menen is cast as a young Jayalalithaa.
Titled 'The Iron Lady', the film is being directed by Priyadarshini, a former associate of director Mysskin. It goes with the tagline ‘India’s Margaret Thatcher’.
Produced by Chennai-based Papertale Pictures, the film is slated for release on Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary, February 24, next year.
The poster is viral on social media and many netizens have termed Nithya as the 'perfect cast'. While many have been stunned by the strikingly similar looks of Nithya and the late AIADMK leader, many have also slammed it as a shoddy copy.
'The Iron Lady' is not the only biopic planned on Jayalalithaa. Two other biopics, helmed by Bharathiraja and A.L. Vijay, were also announced in recent times. There was much speculation about who will essay Jayalalithaa.
