Perumbilavu: A Keralite kid is all set to play in the Asia-Pacific Cup matches of the Barca Academy. Nine-year-old Jerone Joshy will play for Australia in the tournament.

Jerone, whose parents are from Kadavur in Thrissur, currently lives in Australia.

Various teams of Barca Academy from the countries of India, Australia, Japan, Singapore, China, Turkey and Spain will compete in the tournament to be held in Delhi from January 30. A stellar performance for the Barca team in the last year's Sydney Premier Academy League opened the doors for Jerone to the Australian Barca team.

Jerone would play in the under-nine category. Jerone has been training at the Barca Academy for the past two years. He has been trained by the Spanish footballer Frances Puyol.

Jerone is the grandson of retired AEO (late) P I Thambi and Akamma Thambi, natives of Kadavur in Thrissur. His father Joshy Thambi and mother Ashika Joshy have been living in Australia for 12 years.
