When a girl confronted ABVP activists for the right to plant a sapling

Thrissur: Even the World Environment Day is not free from partisan politics in Kerala. A girl student who confronted a group of college mates who would not let her plant a saplings on the campus has become an internet sensation.

All Saritha wanted was to mark the World Environment Day by planting a sapling on the Vivekananda College at Kunnamkulam on Tuesday. The ABVP activists, who have an upper hand in the college, would not let the SFI activist go ahead with her plan.

Saritha stepped forward when the ABVP activists blocked the SFI-affiliated students. The ABVP members are seen trying to shout out the girl and even charging towards her.

Saritha, however, stood her ground and told them pointblank that she would leave only after planting the saplings. Unperturbed by the rowdy behaviour of her rivals, she asked them what are they afraid of.

When Saritha pointed out that her association had received permission to plant the saplings on the campus, her opponents said that they would not allow it no matter what.

The video has gone viral on the web. Top CPM leaders have been sharing the video. The ABVP is yet to come up with an explanation.

Onmanorama could not verify the authenticity of the video.
