Missing people Akhil was a student of the Chaithanya College at Akkikkavu but disappeared mysteriously: Representative Image

Perumbilavu: Muraleedharan and Saroja have been waiting for their son for 10 years.

Akhil never returned home after he went to college on September 22, 2008. The plus-two student dropped by his uncle’s house in the evening as he had told his mother. He left that house around 8 pm. Nobody saw him after that.

Akhil was a student of the Chaithanya College at Akkikkavu. He did well in studies but mostly kept to himself. Saroja said that there was no reason for him to leave the family. Muraleedharan, a carpenter from Karikkad, said that his son’s friends were also surprised by the sudden disappearance.

The Kunnamkulam police investigated the disappearance for three months before closing the case.

The boy’s parents, however, continued with the search. Muraleedharan has travelled to distant places in neighbouring states in search of his son. He put out notifications in Malayalam and Tamil dailies.

He once received a call from Palakkad with information matching the description in the notification but he was disappointed to see someone who resembled his son. The family petitioned the Thrissur district superintendent of police for a reinvestigation but nothing came of it.

They are planning to petition the chief minister and the state police chief.
