Plea to help rescuer fisherman is spreading on social media

Thiruvananthapuram: The boat belonging to Joseph of Valiya Veli beach here was among the first to reach the flood-affected areas in Kerala for the rescue mission. But now it is Joseph who needs help for his daughter’s wedding. The social media has taken up the cause and requests for help are circulating widely.

Joseph had rescued around 270 people in the floods, but when he returned home, found that his boat was damaged beyond repair. His debt too mounted. He also faced health issues. A skin allergy meant that he could not go to the sea. The wedding of Joseph’s daughter was fixed at this time.

Joseph has no money to meet the expenses of the wedding and his plight came to notice of the social media community who took up efforts to extend support. Social activists suggest donating money or jewellery or sponsoring the feast or the tent. The message is circulating fast on social media and comments in the groups stress that there is no better way to help Joseph in his hour of crisis for all that he had done to save lives during the flood tragedy.
