Mother dies in childbirth, medical negligence alleged Relatives alleged that it was the injection given to prevent the infection of the wound post-pregnancy that had led to Sreeja's death.

Thiruvananthapuram: A 21-year-old woman, Sreeja, died after giving birth at Kaduvayil Thangal Charitable Trust (KTCT) Hospital at Chathampara near Attingal in the wee hours of Tuesday. The child, taken out after a Caesarian section, is safe and healthy. Relatives have alleged negligence on the part of the multidisciplinary hospital. The charge is that the hospital had administered an injection without conducting the mandatory allergy tests.

Sreeja was admitted to the hospital two days ago. The C-section was conducted on Monday evening. By night, her condition worsened. Though she was rushed to a private hospital in the capital, she breathed her last by 2 am Tuesday. Relatives alleged that it was the injection given to prevent the infection of the wound post-pregnancy that had led to Sreeja's death. They also charge that the hospital authorities withheld information about Sreeja for hours.

Hospital authorities, however, refuted charges of negligence and said that the patient's condition was serious.
