Palakkad: A court order to provide seats for employees at shops will be strictly implemented in the coming days and violators punished. Extensive inspections by the Labour Department will cover cities and major towns first and soon include establishments in villages.

Eight teams lead by district labour officer and including seven assistant officers have inspected businesses and explained the new order in their first visits. Further inspections will ensure its implementation.

Most outlets in the district have made seats available for its employees, said Labour Officer MK Ramakrishnan. Inspections will be held every month, during which employees' grievances will be individually addressed.
