Plea for house falls on deaf ears; youth kills himself With the death of Murali, his wife and four children have become destitute.

Malappuram: In a disturbing incident, a man committed suicide in front of a grama panchayat office in the district after his plea for a house met with no response from the authorities. Murali had staged a hunger strike before he resorted to the extreme step.

The man, belonging to a Tamil family which has been living at Thennala in Malappuram, and family comprising his wife and four children were thrown out of their rented house recently. With nowhere to go, Murali had launched a protest in front of the Thennala grama panchayat office.

Murali had knocked on all doors for a house and land. However, he received favourable response from nowhere. The grama panchayat authorities had said that assistance to build a house could not be given to Murali as he did not own even one cent of land.

With the death of Murali, his wife and four children have become destitute. Their dream of an own house has been shattered. Tragically, Murali’s death occurred on the eighth day after his wife gave birth to a baby.
