A bridegroom is in the soup after police slapped case against him for arriving at the wedding venue atop a captive elephant. Police registered case against R K Sameeh, hailing from Vadakara in Kozhikode district, the elephant owner and mahout invoking the Kerala Captive Elephants (Management and Maintenance) Rules.

It came to light that prior permission was not taken to parade the jumbo. Moreover, the ban on use of elephants between 10 am and 4 pm was also violated.

Recently, the video of Sameeh arriving at the bride’s house riding an elephant, along with his wedding entourage, had gone viral on various social media platforms. Many took strong exception to the extravagant marriage at a time when Kerala was being battered by floods.

The marriage of Sameeh, son of NRI industrialist R K Abdullah Haji, was held on August 18, and the groom decided to ride an elephant to the bride’s house though a car was waiting to take him there.
