Sisters' love for mobile lands them in rape trap
Akhilesh was nabbed by local people and handed over to the Elathur Police.

Kozhikode: Two teenaged sisters, who were desperate to get a mobile phone, had a miraculous escape from the clutches of unscrupulous youths who had abducted them and attempted to rape them at a rented accommodation at Elathur in Kozhikode recently.

It all started when the elder sister's repeated demands for a new mobile phone were turned down by their mother. As if a godsend, the girl noticed a youth on roadside who often met her on way to school and offered her several things like taking her to a cinema and dining at a fine restaurant. One day, the girl told him that she wanted a mobile phone.

She also told this to her younger sister so that she won't create any problems later. She also told her with the new phone, they could listen to music, watch films and call friends without mother’s permission.

The youth, Akhilesh, discretely gave the girl a mobile phone and the siblings started using it without the knowledge of their parents.

Akhilesh subsequently told the sisters that he would give them a better one if they come out of the house when he called them.

One day he contacted them at midnight asking them to accompany him on a bike to his rented house. Akhilesh came with a 17-year-old friend. When the girls asked for the mobile phone, Akhilesh said it was kept in another house and asked them to come there. Though the sisters were reluctant, Akhilesh compelled them to accompany him.

The four sat on the bike and took more than an hour to reach Kooduthumpoyil, one km away as they travelled along narrow bylanes to avoid public attention.

They reached the house where the Akhilesh's friend lived on rent. His parents had gone to a relative’s house. The girls were given food that had been kept in the house. Afterwards, they were forced to change dress and the duo tried to molest the girls.

Alert neighbours

People in the neighbourhood noticed that lights were switched on in the house late in the night unusually. They had also seen a bike had made several trips from and to the house that day.

Neighbours raised an alarm and a crowd soon gathered near the house. Akhilesh and his friend tried to flee the spot but were nabbed and handed over to the Elathur Police. The girls revealed the bitter experience to the police. The parents of the girls learned about the incident when the cops asked them to reach the police station, where the girls and the youths were taken.
