It was not a tiger, but a wild cat

Maravoor: Forest officials have confirmed that the animal that was found near a house in a video that went viral is a wild cat.

An expert team led by Thamarassery range forest officer Imrose Elias Navas and deputy range forest officer MK Rajiv Kumar inspected the area on Sunday.

They could only find a blurred footprint. Any signs that can confirm the of presence of tiger like faeces and the remains of prey were not found in the area.

A video shot at Kolattil Raveendran’s house where a marriage function was being held had images of a wild animal walking past the kitchen area.

The expert team also examined the video, after which they confirmed that the animal was a wild cat.

A police team led by SI P Muraleedharan too had visited the spot. The suspicion that the animal could be a tiger arose because of the nearby six-acre plot that has thick vegetation with the Chaliyar river flowing alongside.
