Traffic violations prove costly for motorists on Ktym roads


Kottayam: The police and RTO registered 570 and 182 traffic violations respectively on the first day of an action plan aimed at increasing road safety in the district.

212 people were given awareness guidance during the Motor Vehicle Department’s drive, Enforcement RTO Tojo M Thomas said. Rs 1.95 lakh was collected in fines. The RTO carried out seat belt inspection. Many drivers were given safety instructions during checks performed to find traffic violations by teams under each police station.

An ‘interceptor’ unit was used to check speeding near Poovathumoodu bridge on Manarkkad-Ettumanoor Road. Seat belt checks will continue until tomorrow, followed by illegal parking checks.

Across the state, 2,735 people were booked for not wearing seat belts or helmets.
