Lucky escape for woman stuck between drain slabs

Unable to move and suffering unbearable pain, 57-year-old Radha sat down over the slab. Noticing her plight, nearby shopkeepers, auto drivers and local people rushed to her help. But they were unable to move the 150-kg slab. Meanwhile, a crane owned by a Tamil Nadu native passed that way and it joined the rescue mission.

During the rescue attempt, the crane was used to drag away one of the slabs sandwiching her leg. Finally, Radha’s leg was released by 11.45 am, after 30 minutes. With the intervention of panchayat president P Kurian, Radha was taken to the Taluk Hospital in a civic vehicle. An x-ray and other tests showed that there was no serious injury.

Radha, a resident of Tharayil, Kulathoor, had reached the town on November 30 to take part in the rally taken out ahead of World AIDS Day. Her predicament commenced as she proceeded to enter a bus at Pallikkavala. Her leg got trapped between the slabs as she walked towards the bus around 11.15 am.
