Kaduthuruthy: When the panchayat installed a board at the river crossing in Ezhumanthuruth in Kallara displaying the name and mobile number of the boat man, it only had good intentions.

But the board does not serve the purpose as the people dialling the number only make life hell for Anoop, a man living in faraway Wayanad.

Instead of the boat man's mobile number, it is Anoop's that is shown on the board. The board was meant to help people needing to cross the river on an emergency at night.

Somehow, while setting up the board, instead of the boat man K S Shyam Kumar’s number, Anoop’s number was written.

Anoop works as a driver of earthmovers in Mananthavady. He regularly gets calls to reach Ezhumanthuruth with his boat in the middle of the night. Initially, Anoop was clueless about the matter and politely told callers that he was not a boat man. But he soon realized things were serious when people contacted him frequently at night demanding the crossing at night hours to take sick people to hospital and rushing to the houses where a death had occurred.

Now a days, Anoop can hardly sleep at night and has requested the authorities to correct the mobile number on the board. He also expressed his willingness to bear the cost.

According to the panchayat authorities, the mistake was committed by the person who painted the board.
