Kottayam: Post-graduate (PG) doctors in the Government Medical College, Kottayam, will launch an indefinite strike from Saturday to protest against what they call unscientific reforms at the medical college casualty department.

The PG doctors' association pointed out that a recent government order that allows the appointment on a temporary basis of non-clinical post-graduate students to the casualty department is unacceptable. While the students are not properly trained in intensive care, expert doctors are required to attend to patients referred from nearby general hospitals and private medical colleges.

The association demands that the order be withdrawn.
