Did an online game claim Kottayam student's life?

Mallappally, Kottayam: The mysterious death of a student in Kalloppara the other day could be a case of suicide prompted by online games, it is suspected. It is understood that the police have collected information from other students in the school about it.

The student's body was found hanging from the window of his house on July 1. His kin and local people have raised doubts about an online game that offered expensive cars.

The police had seized a mobile phone that he was using. Though the phone was handed over to the cyber cell, they are yet to make any breakthrough.

In 2017, several deaths linked to an online game, Blue Whale Challenge, were reported from various parts of the country, including Thiruvananthapuram.

'Blue Whale Challenge' is a controversial Internet game in which a series of tasks, mostly brutal, are given to players for a period of 50 days by the administrators with a final challenge requiring them to commit suicide. However, it was not known if the Kottayam lad's death was linked to this.
