Police nab drug lord who loved his billhook Though Aloty initially gave the slip to the cops and ran for over a kilometre through a rubber plantation and hid in a thicket, the cops managed to nab him.

Kottayam: The accused in the excise team assault case, Jasemon, alias Aloty, 24, has been nabbed by the police.

While the cops where on the lookout for Aloty in an assault case on a lottery seller in Chingavanam on Thursday, they came to know that he was at the house of a Karukachal native. The police cordoned off the house.

Though Aloty initially gave the slip to the cops and ran for over a kilometre through a rubber plantation and hid in a thicket, the cops managed to nab him. A billhook, five crude bombs and 50 sachets of ganga were seized from him.

Aloty is accused in 30 criminal cases, including murders. He was caught by deputy superintendent Shajimon Joseph, the station house officers of east and west police Saji Varghese and Nirmal Bose respectively, SIs M J Arun and Renish and 15 cops from the DySP's squad.

Ganja mafia king

The police said Aloty was the 'king of ganja mafia' in Kottayam district and they had registered eight criminal cases against him in the past two months. Though he was under surveillance and the cops knew of his frequent visits to a house in Chingavanam, they couldn’t get him.

Aloty's favourite hideouts were in Erattupetta, Vagamon and Illikkal. He used a SIM card taken through a friend's acquaintance and a bike owned by a Manjoor native. The police said the bombs were made and given to Aloty by a Thiruvananthapuram native.

On May 8, an excise team that came to inspect Aloty's house at Panambalam was attacked using chilli spray and weapons. The DySP said they would demand that Aloty, who had served a jail term after being held under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA) be charged under it again.

Chilli spray attack

The latest case registered against Aloty was the chilli spray attack on lottery salesman Paul Jacob at Chingavanam. After claiming that he had the winning ticket, Aloty sought the prize money from Jacob. When inspected, it was clear that the numbers had been fudged.

An altercation followed and Aloty used chilli spray on Jacob's face and created tension in the area by brandishing his billhook. Though shopkeepers in the area tried to stop Aloty, he used chilli spray on them and threatened them with the billhook.
