Kollam: A 36-year-old man was injured after a beer bottle thrown from a moving train hit his head near the Kollam railway station on Monday evening.

Paravur native R S Gopakumar, a daily labourer, was on his way back home when the bottle hit his head as he was passing by the rail-track near Chemman Mukku overbridge around 5 pm on Monday.

Though two bottles were thrown out, one missed his ear by a whisker and the second glass bottle broke after hitting his head, Gopakumar said.

A passenger of the Thiruvananthapuram-Veraval Express had thrown out the bottles.

A passerby immediately took Gopakumar to a counter of a private hospital at the railway station. He was then taken to the district hospital, where his wound was stitched up.

Earlier there were instances of passengers getting hurt when stones were hurled at trains near the Kollam railway station. The railway police force had also arrested an Anjalumoodu native, who threw stones at the passing trains from the nearby bushes.
