With one death every km, MC Road turns death trap

Kottarakkara: The accident rate on Main Central (MC) Road, a major artery in Kerala, would shock anybody.

According to a survey conducted by Traffic Management and Road Safety Enforcement (TRL), at least one life is lost on each km every year.

The statistics were obtained by checking the details from nine police stations in the area over the last three years.

As per the figures, 1,555 accidents took place along the 80-km stretch from Adoor to Kazhakkoottam during this period. As many as 1,213 people suffered injuries in these mishaps and 248 of them died. Around 85 % of these deaths occurred in the areas under the Kottarakkara, Chadayamangalam, Venjarammoodu, Kilimanoor and Pothencode police stations.

Incidentally, the highest number of deaths occurred on Sundays.
