Ambalappuzha: Lady Luck smiled on a 21-year-old Kerala youth who was persevering in his efforts to make a living. He hit the jackpot by winning the Rs 70 lakh first prize of the Kerala State Sthree Shakthi Lottery the other day even as he was coming to terms with a disappointing Army rally where he failed to clear the physical test. Remarkably, this was the first time the youth from the fishing family had purchased a lottery ticket!
Anthu’s fortunes changed soon as the ticket number SO 680894 was picked up for the first prize during the lucky draw.
He is the youngest son of Ashokan and Geetha of Ambalappuzha in Kerala's Alappuzha district.
Anthu had taken part in the recruitment rally at Kottayam on December 3. However, he could not finish the running race on time. Dejected, he made his way back home. When he got down at the Alappuzha KSRTC bus stand, he took the lottery.
Anthu's sister Ashwathy's marriage has been fixed for May 12. The family also has a Rs 25,000 bank loan which he had availed to carry out maintenance works at the home. Even as the family was worried over the wedding expenses, the Lady Luck came calling.
With the prize money, Anthu wants to conduct his sister’s wedding and help out his siblings and parents.
Despite the initial setback, he still strives to serve the Motherlan by joining the Indian Army.
Nedumkandam: For the second time in two weeks, luck has favoured Idukki. The first prize of the Karunya lottery has reached the district this time.
The ticket sold by Nedumkandam APM Lottery Agency was picked up during the draw of the KN 993 Karunya Plus Lottery. This ticket was reportedly sold in the Thookupalam area.
Munnar native Vincent had won the first prize of Rs 70 lakh of the Pournami Lottery last week.
