Kalavoor: The local tipplers here thought a convenient liquor outlet has been opened overnight near the national highway at Pathirappally in Alappuzha district. As the board in front of the shop said, “The prices of alcohol have been slashed from 12-1-2019,” the drunkards were quite excited.
There was a pretty long queue too at the outlet. While many waited to grab their share thinking that the shop was indeed that of Kerala State Beverages Corporation, others were up in arms against the new outlet. But some people in the queue found something amiss with the presence of film personalities in the vicinity, and left with a slight whimper. But others stayed put until they realised that the liquor outlet was part of a film shooting set.
The liquor outlet was created for the shooting of Jayaram-starrer ‘Grand Father’. The film crew had transformed a closed down shop near national highway at Pathirappally near here to a liquor shop. They had also erected a board mentioning that the outlet was that of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation.
Two rooms of the shop were stacked with liquor bottles and small boards were put up displaying usual information such as ‘Jawan out of stock’, ‘please check the balance amount before leaving the counter’, and the price list.
The original liquor shops would have paled before the filmi one as it had cash counters and railings to regulate the flow of customers.
The scene that was canned had people in the queue turning away actor Dharmajan Bolgatty who was seen flashing a Rs 2,000 note and requesting them to buy him liquor. Those who came to the liquor outlet were featured in the scene, and they were happy to be part of the film.
