Thazhakara: Littering in public spaces has put a teacher in a soup after he inadvertently put his photo and address in the garbage bag he threw away on the road side here in Alappuzha district.

The panchayat and local residents had decided to install a surveillance camera in the area as the dumping of garbage near to Chackopadam has put the local residents in great distress.

While panchayat members Manu Philip, Murali Vrindavanam and Vineeth Vijayan were scouting for the right place to install the camera, they found some bags of waste lying on the ground and opened them. They found the photo and address of a teacher hailing from Mavelikkara in one of the trash bags, and this information was handed over to the police.

The police called up the litterbug and asked him to remove all the garbage from the area.

It was decided that the garbage dumped in the area would be cleared using an earthmover and its rent should be paid by the erring teacher. The waste mounds were removed on Saturday and the teacher had to shell out Rs 10,660 as rent.

Meanwhile, the contact details of a woman, which were found on an envelope in a trash bag, were also handed over to the police.
