Injured bus driver shields passengers amid stone pelting

Ambalapuzha: A state transport bus driver ignored an injury on his face, and focused on the rescue of passengers as the bus was pelted with stones on Wednesday night.

Abdul Rasheed, 32, was bleeding profusely after he was struck, but continued with his duty. He has been hailed by the public for his dedication.

The Thiruvananthapuram-Kalpatta superfast bus came under attack at around 10.40 pm at Navarakkal, Ambalapuzha, in Alappuzha district. The front glass of the bus was shattered in the attack and Rasheed's face was injured from glass splinters.

Rasheed ignored the bleeding injury and soon started to shift the passengers to a bus that followed. He then proceeded to the Medical College Hospital at Vandanam to seek treatment. He has six stitches, on his nasal bridge and eyelids.

Rasheed, a resident of Chennachamkadiyil, Padanilam, Kunnamangalam, is working at the Kalpatta depot of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). He told the police that five people standing near the road had pelted the stones.
