Ambalapuzha: Sarojini Purushothaman, the widow of former chief minister VS Achutanandan's brother Purushothaman, will get her flood relief money of Rs 10,000 on Monday after the district collector's intervention. Alappuzha District Collector S Suhas moved swiftly after Malayala Manorama reported on Sunday that Sarojini, a senior citizen and agricultural worker, had visited the Punnapra Paravur village office and the local Canara Bank branch for the money, but to no avail.

The Revenue Department has initiated emergency proceedings to make the money available to Sarojini, who had failed to get the money even after five repeat visits to the village office and the bank.

Sarojini's Ashok Bhavan house in Paravur, Punnapra, was flooded but she and her children had chosen to stay on there. The Muslim Youth League state leadership visited her on Sunday and offered Rs 10,000.

The district collector has moved to ensure that all flood victims on the government list, entitled to the benefit, got it before October 15. It has also been decided to call adalats at all six taluks in the district and disburse the money if anyone hasn't received it by that date.
