Ambalappuzha: Former Kerala chief minister and CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan's close relative has failed to get the Rs 10,000 flood relief money offered by the state government.

Sarojini of Ashok Bhavan in Paravur, Punnapra, had visited the village office and bank five times, to no avail. She is the widow of Achutanandan's brother V S Purushothaman.

On Saturday it was the fifth time that Sarojini, a senior citizen, visited the Punnapra-Paravur village office and the local Canara Bank. The bank repeated its assurance that she might get it soon.

Sarojini had stayed put in her house, along with her children, when it was inundated in August. She had hoped for some relief from the money that the government had promised, but remains deeply disappointed.

The revenue department, incidentally, had claimed on September 18, that the distribution of the Rs 10,000 aid to flood-affected families has been completed. It had said 5.5 lakh families have received the money.
