Edathua: Sinu found it difficult to answer the questions at the SSLC examination. It was not lack of preparations that haunted her, but images of her dear father’s body in the mortuary. Sunny Joseph, Sinu’s father, had died of a heart attack the day before.
A student of St Mary’s girl’s high school, Edathua, Sinu had, in fact, on Wednesday, the day of the first exam, received the blessings of her father as well as her mother Seema before heading to school. After Sinu left, Sunny suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the Medical College Hospital.
When Sinu came home after her exam, she called her father on his mobile phone to tell him that she wrote the exam well. But soon Sunny died and Sinu received the news with a big shock.
When Sunny’s body was brought home by 8 pm that day, a grieving Sinu was inconsolable and she forgot everything about the remaining papers of her SSLC exam. It took three of her teachers, Jees Xavier, Lysamma and Rani, who came to her house the next day morning, to convince Sinu not to miss her exam and they brought her to school for writing the next paper.
Sinu has a brother, Sangeeth, who is a sixth standard student at St Aloysius higher secondary school.
