Saraswathy Rao

Saraswathy Rao is a formidable opponent in a table tennis match, even at 69. Her fellow players were in for a surprise when this former Indian Table Tennis Champion and India No.2 in her time recently wielded the racquet at a veterans’ invitational tournament.

Apparently, a video of the gray-haired, saree-clad, Rao in action, has gone viral on the Internet and everyone is beyond impressed. The veteran seemed to be in perfect form despite her age and the younger players had a hard time defending her smashes.

During the peak of her career, Rao was one of the most popular women paddlers in the country. Of course, she did not play in an age when the matches were broadcast on TV or live-streamed on the internet. Now when it did happen, she showed the world that she can still own the game like a true champion.

Though inadvertently, Rao has helped bust a lot of myths about aging, if the buzz on social media is anything to go by. Table tennis is a game that calls for superb hand-eye coordination, focus and timing.

During a time when lifestyle diseases and unhealthy aging are increasingly causing concern, Rao gives us major goals wellness goals. Watch the 1.14-minute video here to get inspired.
