Vizhinjam: The coastal belt of Vizhinjam is rejoicing. One of the local girls has come a step closer to pursuing her dream to be a doctor.
Fazeela Sulaiman carries the aspiration of an entire community when she prepares to join an MBBS course in a self-financing college at Adoor. She will be the first doctor from Vizhinjam when she completes her medical education.
The fisherfolk has a model to project before the younger generation. Fazeela has proved that another life is possible.
The daughter of Sulaiman and Asharafa on the Harbour Road, Fazeela was always sure about her career. Her favorite subject at school was biology.
As soon as she passed the plus two exams with flying colors, she wrote the medical entrance admission. She finished within the first 15,000 ranks despite appearing for the test without any professional coaching.
Her teacher Annie encouraged her to give it another shot. A scholarship from the state fisheries department helped her go to an entrance coaching center at Pala. The homesick girl, however, left the coaching center after three months.
She worked day and night in her modest house and it paid. She finished at 6,058th rank. She was initially allotted to a BDS course but later moved to MBBS.
Fazeela’s parents have a crucial role in her success. “If my daughter wants to study, she will,” said Sulaiman. He told Fazeela not to bother about the family’s finances.
Sulaiman has to raise Rs 2.25 lakh for hostel fees and other expenses. Fazeela’s parents said that their daughter had never bothered them with any demands. All the girl wanted was to study.
Fazeela’s aim is to return to Vizhinjam as a gynecologist. Her siblings Faizal, Fayaz and Fayina are already looking up to her.
