Playback singer Sithara Krishnakumar’s new look has several of her fans concerned. Her cropped hair became a topic of discussion when she went live on Facebook on Children’s Day to present the cover version of a Tamil song.

The singer was so peeved at the unwanted sympathy that she took to Facebook again to dispel several myths about beauty. Let us talk about cut trees than cut hair, she said. She also said that she cut her hair for a very personal reason.

“I do not believe in the notion of Malayali womanhood as defined by factors like hair length, skin color and the depth of voice. I feel irritated when someone argues for it. Our looks can change in a split second,” she wrote.

“Let us rather talk about cut trees than cut hair, darkened rivers than dull complexion. Let us talk about the sky, earth, hungry children, wars, peace friendship, humans and songs. Let us not hurt each other with words.”
