The story of Bengaluru-based personal fitness trainer Shreejith Nair in one word would be 'wow'. As a boy with congenital clubfoot (a congenital deformity that severely twists the foot downward and inward, making walking difficult or impossible), life was not an easy task for Shreejith. But he transformed himself so much that now people look at him not with sympathy filled eyes but for motivation.
The 'wow' story
Constant bullying in school, unable to walk and play like other kids and sitting through games and activity classes, his only dream then was to walk like everyone else, Shreejith said.
Half a decade later, he underwent a surgery to correct the problem with his ankle. But alas, what happened after the surgery was the darkest phase of his life, according to Shreejith. Post surgery, he plunged into an unhealthy lifestyle. All that he did was eat junk foods and stay addicted to online gaming, the couch potato makeover was a massive one for Shreejith — from 60kg to 108kg.
A stirring realization that things are not going in the right direction made him take control of the situation. Light but regular exercise and control over the diet produced motivating results for Shreejith. The newfound self was an addicting one for Shreejith; an addiction, he says, that continues even today. “I just love waking up to see himself each day,” Shreejith said.
Pumping iron is his greatest passion now. “Weight lifting allows me to compete with myself every single day. During my initial struggling days, I realized that my biggest competition was not my gym-mates, but the person staring back at me from the mirror and I decided to go that extra sets to better myself.”
His best friend, fitness training, not just helped him get out of his physical problems, but also helped him discover his passion to transform lives of people through fitness. He wants everyone, who comes to him, to experience the feeling of joy and accomplishment that he felt while hitting the gym day in, day out.
When asked if he had any celebrity trainers, which has become the tag line of every fitness trainer out there, he said: “I have worked with a few small time actors. But, I consider all my clients as celebrities. I value their decision to bring a change into their life. That willingness to change makes each one a celebrity. I respect each one of them and support them to make their dreams into a reality.”
'Four-meals-a-day' routine of Malayalis
Shreejith, who enjoys over 33.4k followers on Instagram, is not ready to hit the alarm over Malayali's 4-meals-a-day routine like other fitness gurus and nutritionists. According to him, “There is no routine which set on stone. Any routine which someone can adhere to for a long time is the best one for them. Doing all the little things right and doing that consistently for a long period of time is what gets you results.”
He observes that fitness has grown tremendously in the last couple of years and people are becoming more aware of the need to stay fit and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
These days when all are busy and traveling around, to get people into the gym itself has become a tough task, let alone making them abide by a personal trainer’s schedule. The best option left with Shreejith was to meet his clients where they were available 24/7 - that was online. The online training allows someone to avail every support a trainer would normally offer if s/he was with him in the gym. “The biggest advantage lies in the affordability, flexibility and high-level personal accountability. You’ll get fully-personalized training plans, fully customized diet plans and unlimited support as you work to achieve your personal goals. In fact, an entire month of unlimited, private and convenient attention from your online coach costs less than you’d pay for just an hour of training at most gyms,” said Shreejith, who coaches his clients through an app, where he monitors their workouts and diet.
He also makes changes if necessary and the clients are in constant contact with him throughout. He also assists them by telling them what exercises to do, and what changes to make in the diet.
His customers can choose three plans for transformation — Devotion, The Burn and The Fuel.
'Devotion' is for people eying a whole transformation since it covers both the diet and workout aspect. People who are trying to maintain their weight or tone up can pick up 'The Burn'. And people who already have a personal trainer in the gym, and want help with nutrition can opt for 'The Fuel'.
Remain true to yourself and follow your passion. If you don't have one, keep looking. Nothing beats hard work. Success is not for the weak and uncommitted. Sometimes it’s going to hurt! Yes, it's going to hurt real bad - both physically and emotionally. Suck It up! Stop the blame game. Stop looking out of the window, instead look in the mirror! That's your biggest competition. It has always been you vs you.
The joy on my the faces of my clients after they have lost weight or achieved their goal is my biggest achievement. Transforming people's lives is what I love to do and that brings me the greatest joy. What more can I ask for?
