Black tea

L-Theanine, a kind of amino acid contained in tea leaves, sharpens concentration. Four cups of black tea a day taken for a month without a break will bring down cortisol level, the stress hormone. Studies testify that black tea is not only good for enhancing memory, but also can resist Parkinson’s disease that affects the central nervous system.

Good for bones and teeth

Catechin, a major component of black tea, prevents oral cancer. Tannin, Polyphenol and fluoride fight dental decay and bad breath. Two cups of tea contain 1.5 milligrams of fluoride.

Helps digestion

Among Keralites, there is a custom of consuming black tea along with Biriyani. But, many of us are unaware of the scientific reasons behind the practice. Tannin, a component of black tea, helps in digestion. It also protects the digestive system from intestinal diseases and gastric problems. Black tea also relieves diarrhea.

Apart from vitamins B-12, C and E, black tea contains magnesium, potassium and zinc which are great for skincare. Black tea prevents wrinkles and pimples on the skin.
