Raisins

Raisins or dry grapes are considered as gems among dry fruits. Though they are commonly used in desserts and traditional food items as a taste enhancer their medicinal properties are rarely tapped.

Identifying the healing and medicinal properties of raisins, Dr. Sowmya S, an Ayurvedic practitioner based in Thiruvananthapuram, recommends it to control menstrual bleeding disorders as well as nausea.

Regular consumption of raisins is good for a healthy heart. Raisin is a known modulator of sugar levels in the body. It is good for bones and eyes as well.

Rich in vitamins, amino acids, minerals such as boron, phosphorous, calcium, selenium, potassium and so on, raisins are considered highly beneficial to the immune system.

Body-cooling properties of raisins are effective in curing burning sensation while passing urine. Raisins are also said to be a remedy for constipation and sexual dysfunction.

A bunch of raisins soaked overnight in a cup of water and consumed in the morning in empty stomach by mashing them into a syrup can keep fever, cold, and a slew of other communicable diseases at bay.
