Badminton star P. V. Sindhu is the lone Indian woman to have won an Olympic silver medal. The 21-year-old from Hyderabad captured the imagination of the nation with her stellar show in last year's Rio Olympics. Even before that Sindhu had proved her mettle on the big stage by winning two bronze medals at the World Championships. Despite all her achievements, it seems the world No. 5 is not a household name yet! In a video, which has gone viral, Yakutpura MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is seen referring to Sindhu as a volleyball player.
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen legislator committed the blunder even after consulting Telangana deputy chief minister Mahmood Ali, while flagging off a 5K run. The MLA from the state of Telangana, during his speech, said, “We are thankful to P.V. Sindhu, the volleyball player who has represented Hyderabad on an international platform.”
Sindhu, whose parents P. V. Ramana and P. Vijaya were volleyball players, kept a straight face and did not react to the comment.
