Bhubaneswar: Kerala lost to Tamil Nadu and failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day championship here on Friday. Tamil Nadu scored an emphatic six-wicket win to hand Kerala their fourth successive loss in the seven-team Group B.

Opting to bat, Kerala rode on Sanju V. Samson's 84 to reach 230/7 in their 50 overs. Kerala, who slumped to 53/4, recovered through a partnership of 60 between Sanju and captain Sachin Baby (37). Sanju and Salman Nizar (49) then put on 111 for the fifth wicket to take Kerala past the 200-run mark.

Sanju's 89-ball knock contained six fours and three sixes.

Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik (88) and Baba Aparajith (74) added 145 runs for the third wicket to put TN on the road to victory. Karthik's 68-ball knock was laced with 15 boundaries. Though pacer Sandeep Warrier claimed 4/51, TN were home and dry with more than 10 overs to spare.

Brief scores: Kerala 230/7 in 50 overs (Sanju V. Samson 84, Salman Nizar 49; Rahil Shah 2/33, Antony Dhas 2/13) lost to Tamil Nadu 231/4 in 39.2 overs (Dinesh Karthik 88, Baba Aparajith 74; Sandeep Warrier 4/51).
