India have recalled veteran left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra and wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik for the three-match Twenty20 International series against Australia.
The squad includes opener Shikhar Dhawan, who missed the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series against the Aussies to attend to his ailing wife.
Ajinkya Rahane, who opened the innings along with Rohit Sharma in the ODI series and scored four half-centuries, has been shown the door. Medium-pacer Shardul Thakur, who was part of the Indian squad for the lone T20 against Sri Lanka, too has been dropped.
Karthik was part of the Indian squad in the ICC Champions Trophy in June and the subsequent limited overs series against the West Indies.
The 38-year-old Nehra last played for India against England at home in February in a three-match T20 series.
The T20 series begins in Ranchi on Saturday. Guwahati (October 10) and Hyderabad (October 13) will stage the following games.
The squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, K.L. Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, M.S. Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra, and Axar Patel.
