Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will miss the first three One-Day Internationals against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement that Dhawan has been relieved of duties to be his with his ailing wife Ayesha.
“Dhawan has requested to be released from the team for the first three ODIs of the Paytm Australia tour of India, to attend to his wife, who is unwell,” the statement read.
The BCCI selection committee has decided not to name any replacement for the left-hander. Dhawan has been in sparkling form ever since he made his comeback into the Indian team in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Interestingly, Dhawan had missed the final ODI and the lone T20 International in the recent Sri Lankan tour to tend to his ailing mother.
The first ODI of the five-match series will be played in Chennai on Sunday.
