The night of terror at Las Vegas

• At least 58 killed, over 500 injured in the deadliest mass shooting in US history

• Islamic State has claimed responsibility and said the attacker had converted to Islam a few months ago.

• The gunman fired at a crowd of people at the country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip

• The barrage from a 32nd-floor window in the Mandalay Bay hotel into a crowd of 22,000 people lasted several minutes, causing panic 

• Suspect was Stephen Paddock, a local Las Vegas man who acted alone

• Paddock killed himself before police entered the hotel room he was firing from, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters.

• Authorities seeking a woman they named as Marilou Danley, the suspected gunman's roommate

• US president Trump tweets: My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!

• The shooting broke out on the last night of the three-day Route 91 Harvest festival, a sold-out event attended by thousands and featuring top acts such as Eric Church, Sam Hunt and Jason Aldean

• Video taken of the attack showed panicked crowds fleeing as sustained rapid gunfire ripped through the area
