SC cracks the whip, says no firecrackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali
The Supreme Court on Monday said its order of last November banning the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) will continue till October 31.
However, the court said that the September 12, 2017 order lifting the ban on the sale and stocking of firecrackers in Delhi NCR will be back into effect from November 1.
Diwali is on October 19 and the order effectively means that no firecrackers will be available for purchase before the festival. Read more
Dove apologizes for racially insensitive ad
Unilever-owned personal care brand Dove has deleted a 'three-second video clip' from its Facebook page that showed a colored woman turning white. The global brand also apologized for the racially insensitive ad, saying that the company 'missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully'.
The advertisement showed a black woman wearing a brown shirt removing her top to reveal a white woman in a lighter top. A third image then showed the white woman removing her shirt to show a woman of apparently Asian descent, nbcnews.com reported late on Sunday. Read more
President Kovind braves steady drizzle to take salute
President Ram Nath Kovind Sunday braved a steady drizzle and kept standing when the National Anthem was being played while taking the salute by the army on his arrival here on a day-long visit to attend a function at the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
Though an official offered him an umbrella, he did not accept it and kept standing in the rain to take the salute. Read more
Kamal Haasan's big salute to Kerala CM for appointing Dalit priests at temples
Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan on Monday hailed Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for appointing 36 non-Brahmin priests to serve in temples administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB).
Last week, Kerala appointed 62 priests to serve in temples administered by the TDB. Out of the 62, 36 were non-Brahmins of which six were Dalit candidates. Read more
Woman tries to scale gates of Buckingham Palace, arrested
A 30-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to scale the front gates of Buckingham Palace in central London.
The Metropolitan police, however, clarified the incident that took place Saturday was not related to terrorism.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was quickly detained by officers before she gained access to the palace grounds. Read more
