Indian Army busts militant hideouts
The Indian Army has conducted a 'surgical strike' against Naga militants on the Indo-Myanmar border, the Eastern Command of the army tweeted on Wednesday. "Firefight occurred along Indo-Myanmar border at 0445 hrs today," the Eastern Command said. The command also said that no Indian personnel was injured in the attack. The operation has taken place exactly a year after India carried out a surgical strike on terror camps in Pakistan.
Milkha Singh's wax statue unveiled
'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh on Tuesday unveiled his first wax figure for the upcoming Madame Tussauds in Delhi. The figure of the legendary runner will be displayed at the sports zone of Delhi's Madame Tussauds, where he will join other national and international sports icons in an interactive themed environment.
Arts festival format change
The Kerala school arts festivals will be a less crowded affair from now on. The education department has agreed to abide by a court order to limit the number of participants in each item to just two from a district. If there are more than two claimants from a district, then the authorities should shortlist the students purely on the basis of merit. The new system would put an end to contests that stretch late into the night and a flood of appeals from disgruntled competitors.
World Tourism Day
September 27 marks World Tourism Day, an annual event organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). And this year, the focus is on making tourism sustainable for development. For that, you have to be responsible when you travel.
