Dhoni gets nominated for Padma Bhushan

Indian legend M.S. Dhoni has been nominated for Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in the country, by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Dhoni was awarded the Padma Shri in 2009. Dhoni will become the 10th cricketer to receive the honour if the BCCI's recommendation is accepted by the central government. Read more

Earthquake hits Mexico

At least 226 people were killed by a powerful earthquake that struck central Mexico. The earthquake struck on the 32nd anniversary of a temblor that killed thousands in the capital. Thousands ran into the streets in panic, and millions lost electricity when the quake struck around lunchtime. Read more

Sreelekha becomes DGP

R Sreelekha became the first woman to be bestowed with the rank of the director general of police in Kerala. Sreelekha, if you remember was the first woman IPS officer in Kerala. She also became the first woman superintendent of police in the state in 1991. Read more

Saudi Arabia to unblock Internet calling apps

Saudi Arabia will lift its ban on Internet calling applications, authorities said. Voice and video calling apps such as WhatsApp and Skype will be "widely available to users", a government statement said on Tuesday. Read more
