Tiny Bytes Podcast Contest: meet the winners Representational image. iStock

When the idea of rolling out a podcast contest for schoolchildren was first floated in our newsroom, there were many apprehensions.

But almost five months since we had the first child reading out the news for our audience on November 14, we should admit that our fears were totally unfounded.

It has been a crackling competition with over 20 students from 12 schools vying hard to give the best news presentation. The weekly contest witnessed students reading out news with clarity and precision.

A word of appreciation for the teachers too who found time to guide their pupils.

Meet the winners:

We are happy and proud to announce the winners of the Tiny Bytes Podcast Contest:

Best News Reader in English: Haneen of SFS Public School and Junior College, Ettumanoor

Best News Reader in Malayalam: Ivy Tress Siby of SFS Public School and Junior College, Ettumanoor

Best English script: Mariya Sebastian of Mary Matha Public School, Edakkunnam, Kottayam

Best Malayalam script: Shifana Sherif of MES School, Mundakakyam

The other little participants were equally good and it was always a contest of the cream. Those who missed the top slot did so by a whisker. We would like to congratulate them too for being worthy contenders.

These podcasts are proof that their voices will ring out loud and clear for the world to hear. And we consider it an honor to provide them a platform.

Thank you!
