Kochi: The Crime Branch team investigating the mysterious death of Mishel Shaji in Kochi started the probe by reexamining the factors that led the local police to claim that the chartered accountancy student had committed suicide by jumping off the Goshree bridge, into the Kochi lake.
Inspector-General S Sreejith and Superintendent of Police P.K. Madhu inspected the spot on the bridge connecting Mulavukad and Vallarpadom where the young woman was reportedly seen on March 5, the day she went missing from her hostel. She was found dead the next day.
The officers were accompanied by a resident of Vypeen who claimed to have seen the woman on the bridge around 7:45 pm on March 5.
The police have come across surveillance camera footage from an apartment near High Court that showed Mishel walking towards the bridge at 7:20 pm. They had earlier received another clip that showed the young woman coming out of a shrine at Kaloor at 6:20 pm.
The Crime Branch collected information from Mishel’s family in their house at Periyapuram near Piravom.
Sreejith said the team would probe the possibility of murder.
The investigating team has been given the custody of Cronin Baby Alexander (26) for eight days. He was arrested for abetting suicide. The police have found photographs of Mishel and Cronin on his phone.
