The accident happened when the Thiruvananthapuram-Angamaly KSRTC superfast bus collided with a Punalur-bound private bus. It took more than half an hour to take the injured to the hospitals as the onlookers refused to help, reports suggest. Locals pleaded with people who came in vehicles to take the injured to a hospital but they did not heed their appeal.

Locals also said a Venad KSRTC bus which went through that way failed to offer help. The injured were later taken to the hospital in an ambulance and vehicles arranged by the locals.
