Thrissur: A killer leopard has been caged, bringing much relief to villagers in Valpara, Athirapally, who are yet to recover from the shock of the mauling of four-and-a-half year-old Seythul last week.
The leopard fell into the trap set by the forest department near Seythul's house. Villagers found the animal in the cage early Tuesday.
The village is awaiting the arrival of an official with a tranquilizer gun to sedate the leopard before shifting it to another cage. Seythul was mauled Wednesday at Valpara Nadumalai estate where his father, Ashraf Ali, works. The child was snatched as he got out of his house with his mother, Sebi, at 5.30 in the evening.
The leopard vanished into the woods with the child. The villagers and forest officials joined in a search immediately, and his body was found, head severed, after two-and-a-half hours.
People had staged a road blockade, seeking the immediate capture of the beast.
